Carol Rabbitt

Carol Rabbitt, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

Born and raised in Jersey City, Carol was the only child of Richard and Teresa (née Costanza) Cerrito. The pride and joy of her parents, she grew up in a warm and loving home that shaped the compassionate and devoted woman she would become. In December of 1985, she moved to Boonton, where she lived for 11 years before settling in her forever home in Rockaway in December of 1996.

Carol built a successful career as Supervisor of the Premium Audit Department at American International Group in Berkeley Heights, dedicating 10 years to the company before retiring on July 1, 2002. Known for her strong work ethic and leadership, she earned the respect of her colleagues and friends. A woman of deep faith, Carol was a devoted follower of Saint Jude, whom she lovingly regarded as her patron saint. Her faith and family remained the cornerstones of her life.

Affectionately known as “Nanny Carol” or simply “Nan,” she was the loving matriarch of her family. Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love touched everyone who knew her. Carol cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating memories that will live on in their hearts forever.

She was predeceased by her son, Gary M., who passed away on November 2, 2006, and her son-in-law, Anthony T. Cappitelli, who passed away on January 15, 2003. Survivors include her loving children, Brian R. and his wife, Karen, and Nancy Cappitelli and her devoted companion, Martin Padalino; her cherished grandchildren, Maria, Michele, Krystina, Katelyn, Kimberly, Gary, Megan, Danielle, and Lauren; and her treasured 16 great-grandchildren. Her memory will forever remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
