Carol Dixon February 21, 1934 - January 28, 2026 Bellingham, Washington - Carol Lee (former married name Hynes) Dixon, 91, of Bellingham, WA, passed away on January 28, 2026 in Bellingham, WA. She had been living with late onset dementia for several years. No Funeral service is planned. A celebration of life and scattering of ashes will be held with family members at a later date. Carol was born in Everett, WA to Esther May Dixon and William Clifford Dixon on February 21, 1934. She spent her early childhood in Everett and had many pleasant memories of early years spent with her grandparents, Nicklaus and Rose Ellen Lufi in their Everett restaurant, the Silver Lunch, and with the Dixon family relatives. She also remembers attending double-features in Everett movie theaters, and spending time with her neighbors, the Blankenberg family. After the end of WW2, she moved to Lake City, Seattle with her mother, step-father, and sister Trudy. She attended and graduated from Lincoln High School, Seattle, in 1952. She married Robert Joseph Hynes in 1956, living in Seattle. After rearing 4 children, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of attending college and earned a Bachelor of Art's degree in English Literature from the University of Washington in 1981. She worked for the federal government for most of her career, primarily the US Navy, HUD, MSC, and the Office on Women's Health. She attended University Unitarian Church from the 1960's through 1990's. In 2000, to be close to her granddaughters and family, she moved to Bellingham, buying a run-down Victorian home in the York neighborhood then spent several years renovating it. She spent countless hours nurturing her beloved granddaughters, participated in many activities at the Senior Activities Center and Singles Group, and was involved with many York neighborhood activities and projects. She attended Bellingham Unitarian Fellowship and later Bellingham Congregational Church. Carol was a loving and beloved daughter, niece, mother, grandmother, wife, and friend. She read widely and enjoyed creative writing. Especially in her earlier years, she enjoyed sewing and wearing beautiful clothing. She remodeled and decorated several houses and gardens creating beautiful and comfortable homes to share with family and friends. She was empathetic and compassionate, had a grateful and loving heart, and a listening ear for everyone, especially family and friends. Carol is survived by her children, Larry Robert Hynes (Leni), Susan Hynes Caspersen (Erik), Daniel Chun Hynes, Dixon Lee Hynes (Allyson), former daughter-in-law Sofie (Lojander) Hynes, former husband Robert (Bob) Joseph Hynes (Sue). Granddaughters, Anna-Lee (Hynes) Pritchard (Zachary), Leeann Hynes, and Amy Bardash, great grandson Graham Norris Pritchard, niece, Toni Johnson, cousins Dr. Keith (Cody) Wasner (Mary Francis), and Wendy (Wasner) Conlan (Mike) and lifelong friend, Diann (Blankenberg) Robbers. She is preceded in death by her parents, Esther May (Lufi) (Dixon) Gonyea, and William Clifford Dixon, stepmother Gudrun (Oftebro) Dixon, sister, Trudy (Gonyea) Johnson, niece Kim Johnson, aunts and uncles, Nellie (Lufi) Diffley and Lawrence Diffley, Sophia (Lufi) Wasner and Ralph Wasner, cousin Nicholas Wasner, and her beloved Corgi dog Chumley. Her kind, loving heart will be forever remembered and deeply missed. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Whatcom Hospice.
