Ruston, LA

Alma Carol Colvin Hilton was born on September 19, 1946, in Ruston, Louisiana, the firstborn daughter of P.B. and Nell Colvin. She grew up next door to her grandparents, Press and Myrtle Colvin, learning to cook, sew, garden, and care for chickens from her grandmother Myrtle, while her maternal grandmother, Mama Turner, taught her the quiet patience of fishing from a boat. Carol graduated from Many High School, where she was a majorette, and later earned her degree from the University of Texas after attending Northwestern and Louisiana Tech.

Carol married in 1967 and became the devoted mother of two children, Alicia and Max, who were the center of her heart. She found joy in playing the piano, painting landscapes and old barns in oil, sewing, and crocheting afghans for her family. A woman of deep faith, she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, spending many hours in her well-worn Bible filled with notes and prayers. Carol faced life’s challenges with grit and determination, anchored by her belief in salvation through Christ and the promise of eternity in Heaven.

She was preceded in death by her parents, P.B. and Nell Colvin; her daughter, Alicia Hilton Bell; her brother, Mark Colvin; and her sister-in-law, Goldie Colvin. Carol is survived by her son, Max Hilton (Kelly); granddaughter, Shaelyn Fowler (Taylor); great-grandsons, Kai, Sorin, and Hawthorne; grandson, Skye Kneble; sisters, Leska Nelson (Roy) and Joy Page (George); and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

In her final weeks, after a fall led to multiple surgeries, Carol’s protective shell gently fell away, revealing a sweetness that became a precious gift to those around her. Her family will miss her deeply, yet they hold fast to the comfort of seeing her again.
