Passed March 6, 2026
Dallas, TX
Carol Culp Bybee, age 87, of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026. Born on January 22, 1939, in Houston, Texas, she spent much of her early life in Kansas City, Kansas. She graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in Overland Park, Kansas, in 1957, where she was a cheerleader and formed many lifelong friendships. She went on to attend Southern Methodist University, where she was an active member of Delta Gamma sorority. It was at SMU that she met the love of her life, Terry Bybee. They married on June 20, 1959, and Carol graduated in 1961.
Together, Carol and Terry built a loving family, welcoming their son in 1960 and their daughter in 1963. They were married for 62 years until Terry’s death. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Corma Culp, and her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Loretta Culp. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Sally Bybee, and their children, Haley Bybee and her husband Shawn Adams, along with their daughter Lila, and Ashley Bybee. She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dianna and Marty Norman, and their children, Laura Norman, Richard Norman and his wife Ellen Waldrop, along with their daughter Winnie, and Sarah Wehsener and her husband Chase, along with their son Woods. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sharon Bybee.
A longtime member of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, Carol gave generously of her time and energy. She and Terry worked with the youth group, were founding members of the Agape Sunday School Class, and Carol was an active member of the United Methodist Women. She was always ready to say yes and help in any way she could. Carol was the heartbeat of her family. She was the planner who made their famous road trips possible, filling the car with homemade chocolate chip cookies while cheerfully enduring the squabbles from the back seat. She supported her children’s athletic endeavors with boundless enthusiasm, sometimes to an unforgettable degree. An avid tennis player, she competed in TCD tennis well into her 80s. Later in life she took up quilting, creating beautiful, treasured quilts for her children and grandchildren. She and Terry loved to travel, exploring the world with friends and taking each grandchild on a special high school senior trip.
Carol never met a stranger. She loved being with people and could strike up a conversation with anyone, a quality that remained with her even as she faced the challenges of dementia. Her family is grateful for the care she received at The Tradition Prestonwood and for the steadfast support of her sister-in-law, Sharon.
