Carol Ann Lutes

Carol Ann Lutes (Cocklin), 84, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away on March 12, 2026. Born in Mount Vernon, Ohio on November 10, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Charles Cocklin and Creszelda Elizabeth (Schwartz) Cocklin.

Carol was the beloved wife of Joseph Lutes Jr. for 53 years and the devoted mother of six children. She is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Laura Spiller (William) and Ronnie Cardinal (Arnold), and her sons and their spouses, Daniel Crawford (Charlene), Steven Gergel III (Lisa), Brian Gergel, and Joseph Lutes III (Jennifer). She also leaves behind several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who brought her great joy.

A strong, resilient woman with a fiery and fierce spirit, Carol was the steadfast heart of her family. While raising six children and working full time, she stood faithfully by her Naval husband through every deployment and every season of life. To Joe, she was his world, and he was her moon. Above all, her greatest pride was her family, and the legacy she leaves behind lives on in the many lives she nurtured, guided, and loved so deeply.

Carol will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
