Preserve forever →Carol Ann "Meyer" Liimatta
September 4, 1938— March 9, 2026
Columbus, OH
Carol Ann Liimatta, née Meyer, passed away on March 9, 2026. Born on September 4, 1938 on a farm in Woodruff, Wisconsin, she moved as a child to Lake Linden, Michigan, where she attended grade school and high school. She later settled in Columbus, Ohio, to raise her family.
Carol met her future husband, Paul, in the summer of 1951 in Lake Linden before entering eighth grade. They began dating in high school and married on August 31, 1957, just four days before her 19th birthday. The couple moved to Westerville, Ohio, in 1964 and then to Columbus in 1966, where they raised their three children. Carol was a devoted mother and homemaker, an active member of Saint Andrew Parish as a choir member and participant in the Ladies Club, and a generous volunteer at countless church events. She was a passionate supporter of the local arts, particularly the Upper Arlington Arts Festival, and was a partner in the former Powell Ballet Studio in Powell, Ohio.
She loved to cook and bake everything from scratch for the many family gatherings she hosted. After raising her children, Carol attended Ohio University to study business and shorthand transcription, which she later put to use as secretary and accountant for her husband’s natural gas company. Above all, she will be remembered for her endless generosity in raising three generations of children and for her deep affection for animals, especially her beloved dogs Gidget, Smokey, Angel, and many grand-fur-babies, including the ever-persistent Stewie.
Carol is survived by her husband of 68 years, Paul R. Liimatta; her children, Cheryl (Michael) Kovach, Kirk (Teresa) Liimatta, and Paul (Sonia) Liimatta Jr.; seven grandchildren, Christina (Andy), Anthony (Brandy), Amber (Ben), April (Emanuel), Nicklaus (Julia), Brendon (Remy), and Alivia (David); twelve great-grandchildren, Liam (Meli), Morgan, Emilia, Oliver, Odin, Mattis, Lennox, Keeley, Draco, August, Vera, and Callen; and her sisters Marilyn Babcock, Janice Cleveland, and Jean (Arnold) Perala. She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret MacDonald, her brother Vernon Anthony, and nephews Gary Franks and Scott Trudell. Her family is deeply grateful for the loving care provided by her sister Marilyn and son Kirk in her final years, as well as the compassionate teams at Coventry Assisted Living and Summit Hospice Comfort Care.
