Carol Greenberg ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals-West Chapel - North Adams on Mar. 10, 2026.Carol Greenberg passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on March 1, 2026.Carol lived her life with the people she loved, and in the way she intended. She was kind, loving, smart, loyal, forgiving, and of course, elegant. She loved her children and husband above all else, and they all knew and felt this love. She was a true Berkshire County woman, who was born and died in the Berkshires. She attended public schools in Pittsfield through junior high school, and was the oldest of 6 children. She attended her grandfather's sleepaway camp, Camp Taconic, in the summers with her siblings, and enjoyed all forms of winter sports. She especially loved ice skating as a young girl and excelled at the sport. She was featured on the cover of the 4th Annual Winter Carnival Brochure in1949, doing an arabesque spiral. For high school, she attended Miss Hall's School. Her mom, Molly Selkowitz, fought very hard for her 4 girls to have the opportunity to achieve the higher education that Molly was not able to attain. Carol graduated from Vassar College with honors and a BA in Political Science in the spring of 1956. She then moved to NYC to work at The Rockefeller University, and soon met Joel S Greenberg, the love of her life. They were married in August of 1957. They were a loving and devoted couple up to Joel's death in July 2023.Once married, they moved to Pittsfield to start their lives together. They soon had 3 children, Betsy, Peter and Susan. Carol was a stay-at-home mom early on, aiding Joel with his political career. Joel, though originally from the Bronx, came to be a well-known politician and attorney in the Berkshires. It is said that behind every successful man is a strong and loyal woman. Carol was certainly this. She kept the home together while Joel travelled back and forth to Boston, where he was in the MA House of Representatives. In addition, Carol was an active member of the Jewish community and in the Berkshire community, as a whole. Several organizations were important to her: Berkshire Art Association, the Junior League, Hadassah, summers at the Tanglewood Glasshouse, and Vassar College, for which annually she sold bags and bags of pecans to raise money. She was an avid tennis player year-round, and was on a tennis team well into her mid-70's.In addition, she worked as an ESL teacher at Pittsfield High School starting in the early 1980's. The students loved her and stayed in touch with her for years after graduating. She loved sweets and especially ice cream. Her children and grandchildren knew that she would stand in the kitchen after dinner was cleaned up and eat from the container. Coffee and mocha were her favorite flavors, and she was always happy to share. Carol was always ready to listen and give warm hugs to anyone in need, especially her children.Carol is survived by: her children - Betsy Bohrer and her husband, Nat Bohrer, Peter Greenberg, and Susan Greenberg-Yarmush. Grandchildren - Jeremy Bohrer and his wife, Amanda, Madeline Bohrer, and Eitan Yarmush. Great-grandchildren - Miriam and Jonah. She is also survived by four of her siblings: Debbie Aronsohn Neuner, Nan Sisselman, Jan Selkowitz, and Judy Selkowitz. She is predeceased by her brother Mark Selkowitz. Carol will live in our hearts forever. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
