Carol A. (Ducimo) Surabian

Carol A. (Ducimo) Surabian

June 28, 1940 March 9, 2026

Shrewsbury, MA

Carol A. (Ducimo) Surabian, 85, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026, surrounded by her loving children. Carol is reunited in the arms of her beloved husband, Stephen, who predeceased her in 1984.

Carol was born in Worcester, the daughter of Frank “Pete” and Marion (Perritt) Ducimo. She graduated from St. Stephen’s High School in Worcester.

Carol is survived by her four devoted children: Cheryl Lott and her husband Timothy of Shrewsbury; Darlene McNichols and her husband John of Shrewsbury; Gina Heck of Auburn; and Stephen S. Surabian and his wife Tara of Shrewsbury. She also leaves her brother, John “Jack” Ducimo and his wife Sharron of Charlotte, NC; five cherished grandchildren, Alexandra and Ryan Lott, Stephen A. Surabian, Madison and Lauren O’Brien; two sisters-in-law, Philomena Ducimo and Serpouhie Surabian; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends, especially the Troy and Tiscione families. In addition to her parents and husband, Carol was predeceased by her son-in-law, David Heck; her brother, Francis “Fran” Ducimo; and her two sisters, Elizabeth “Janet” Erickson and Barbara E. Grilla, Maciejewski.

In 1962, Carol married the true love of her life, Stephen Surabian, and together they built their home and raised their family in Shrewsbury, where she remained throughout her life.

An avid bowler, Carol worked for more than 30 years at the AMF Town & Country Bowl in Shrewsbury. Through her dedication and hard work, she became manager before retiring in 2001. She was grateful for the many life-long friends she made along the way.

She was a faithful Catholic and an active member of the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, participating in church functions and raising her children with Armenian faith, traditions and cuisine.

Widowed at a young age while raising teenage children, she devoted her life to her family, raising them with faith, love, wisdom, and unwavering devotion. Carol’s greatest role in life was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Affectionately known as “Yaya” by her grandchildren, she enjoyed spoiling them and surrounding them with her love, guidance, and encouragement.

Carol loved spending time in Maine with her children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends—often with her feet in the sand, watching sailboats pass by and the sun set over Moody Beach. She also enjoyed dining out and sharing meals with family and friends, craft and paint nights, trips to Foxwoods and the racetrack. Carol especially loved entertaining—whether during the holidays, weekends by the pool, or the many Sunday family dinners she hosted. Most of all, she treasured attending her grandchildren’s activities and sporting events, which always made her proud.

Friends are invited to gather with the family during calling hours on Monday, March 16, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 17, from the funeral home, followed by a procession to the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury Street, Worcester, where her funeral service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial beside her beloved husband, Stephen, will follow in Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA.

“May her memory be eternal.”
