August 31, 1948— March 14, 2026
Abilene, TX
Carla Halpayne, born on August 31, 1948, to Charles and Joyce Johnson in Breckenridge, Texas, passed away after a life marked by deep faith, quiet strength, and unwavering love for her family. She graduated from Breckenridge High School, where she played in the Buckaroo Band, and later completed the bookkeeping program at Abilene Business School. Carla spent her entire career in the banking and bookkeeping industry.
In 1971, she married the love of her life, William “Butch” Halpayne, on August 7 at Shelton Avenue Baptist Church in Breckenridge. The couple made their home in Abilene and were blessed with two children, Chris Halpayne and Ginger Halpayne Bennight. Carla was a devoted mother who cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she proudly loved as their Mimi. A longtime member of Meadow Oaks Baptist Church in Temple, she served actively in its ministries, lived her faith boldly, and found comfort in Scripture and traditional hymns even as Alzheimer’s affected her memory. Those around her always felt loved and encouraged by her gentle presence.
Carla was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Joyce Johnson, and her husband, William “Butch” Halpayne. She is survived by her sister, Caren Johnson McGinnis of Harker Heights; her son, Chris of Belton; her daughter, Ginger, and son-in-law, Larry, of Rogers; five grandchildren, Cody and Randy Bennight of Rogers, Cort Bethel of Fort Eustis, Virginia, and Ziva and Daxx Halpayne of Belton; and three nephews. Her family extends heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at the Dementia Enrichment Day Center of Belton, who brought joy and friendship to her final months.
