Carla Ann Artner
Butterfield, MN
Carla Ann Artner (Bohm), age 83, passed away on March 6, 2026, at Good Samaritan Society in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. Born on October 28, 1942, to Arthur and Hazel (Voigtlander) Bohm in Waseca, Minnesota, she was baptized as an infant and confirmed at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Butterfield. In 1951 her family moved to Butterfield, the town she proudly called home for the rest of her life.
From a young age Carla showed a natural care for others, helping her parents with her twin siblings, Mark and Marsha. During high school she discovered a lifelong talent for sewing in a home economics class and taught herself on a pedal sewing machine. She later turned this gift into part-time work, lovingly creating clothing for her own children and many others. She graduated from Butterfield High School in 1960.
While working at the local café, Carla met Gene Artner, a newcomer to Butterfield. Their courtship, built on conversation and pie, led to marriage on July 15, 1961. Their 62-year marriage was grounded in deep friendship, quiet devotion, and steadfast partnership. Together they raised two children, Alan and Amy, and delighted in their grandchildren, Jessica and Isaac. Carla cherished the summer visits when her grandchildren stayed with them, filling those days with bike rides, library trips, baking, kickball, paper dolls, fishing for bullheads, and countless card games. She was known for her warm hospitality and for her legendary BBQ meatballs, cinnamon rolls, homemade buns, impossible pumpkin pie, and red Jell-O with bananas.
Carla enjoyed fishing, cooking, baking, reading, knitting, crocheting, puzzling, and golfing with Gene. She stitched a small personalized patch with her name and the date into every blanket and quilt she made, leaving behind tangible expressions of her care. Her gift for conversation and genuine interest in others turned strangers into friends wherever she went. She touched many lives with her kindness, generosity, and Christian love.
Carla is survived by her children, Alan Artner of St. Cloud, Minnesota, and Amy Denn of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandchildren Jessica Denn (Abhigyan Datta) of Mankato, Minnesota, and Isaac Denn-Diaz (Gabriela) of West St. Paul, Minnesota; siblings Janice Clark of Henderson, Nevada, Mark Bohm of Conifer, Colorado, and Marsha Rettig of Fairmont, Minnesota; and sisters-in-law Lola Johnson of St. James, Minnesota, and Patricia Belles of Newberg, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Artner, daughter-in-law Lori Stanton-Artner, her parents, and several in-laws.
