Carl Stephen "Steve" Choate

September 5, 1948 March 9, 2026

Burnet, TX

Carl Stephen “Steve” Choate, 77, of Burnet, Texas, passed away on March 9, 2026, in Burnet. Born on September 5, 1948, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Percy and Dolly Choate, Steve graduated from Cumberland High School in 1966 and attended Belmont University from 1966 to 1970.

Known to many as Steve, and lovingly as Granddad or “Grangrad,” he was a man defined by his deep faith. Those closest to him remember him as faithful, loyal, thoughtful, and kind. His relationship with Jesus was the foundation of his life, guiding how he lived, loved, and cared for others each day.

Steve built a long career marked by hard work and integrity. He served as General Manager for Pepsi Cola for 21 years, from 1980 to 2001, later worked at Big Shot from 2002 to 2007, and continued serving his community as a bus driver until his retirement in 2019. A devoted member of the Church of Christ in Burnet, he faithfully attended services, participated in Bible studies, and often led them, sharing scripture and encouraging others with quiet devotion.

He found joy in life’s simple blessings—time spent with family and friends, trips to the beach, watching sunsets, playing golf, and cheering for the Texas Longhorns. Above all, Steve treasured his family. He is survived by his children, Deborah Corbin and husband Rodney, Steve Choate and wife Mindy, Michael Choate and wife Anna, and Kevin Choate; grandchildren Joshua Guenter and spouse Gina Truong, Brent Guenter and wife Caitlyn Guenter, Shelby Metcalf, Sean Choate, Lily Choate, and Austin Choate; and four great-grandchildren who brought him tremendous pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia Price.

Steve will be remembered as a steady and loving presence whose faith was lived daily through kindness, loyalty, and quiet devotion. His family finds peace in the hope he held so firmly—that through Christ, this goodbye is not forever.
