March 22, 1948— March 11, 2026
Chattanooga, TN
Carl Lee Woody, 77, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, just days before his 78th birthday. Born on March 22, 1948, in Johnson City, Tennessee, he moved with his family to Chattanooga at the age of two. There he was raised and built a life centered on faith, love, service, and devotion to family.
A proud graduate of Kirkman High School, Class of 1966, Carl later earned an associate’s degree from McKenzie College. He served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971. Afterward, he enjoyed a long career with the Chattanooga News Free Press and the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
Above all, Carl was a man of deep faith in Jesus Christ, a faith that guided how he lived, loved, and served others. He served as a deacon at Brainerd Hills Baptist Church, where his steady presence and servant’s heart touched many. He was a devoted husband to his wife Kay for 58 years, and together they created a home filled with laughter, faith, and love. His walls were covered with hundreds of printed photographs of his children and grandchildren, a quiet but powerful testament to how deeply he cherished them.
Carl is survived by his beloved wife, Kay; his son, Christopher Woody (Sheila); his daughters, Kimberly Roberson (Luke), Karen Scaboo (Andy), and Kathy Sansom (Trey); and his treasured grandchildren, Andrew, Garrett, Katherine, Abe, Lilly, Elias, and Lincoln. He is also survived by his sisters, Jesse, Betty, Brenda, and Ann, and their families. He will be remembered as a faithful husband, loving father, proud grandfather, devoted brother, and a man whose kindness, loyalty, sense of humor, and generous spirit brightened the lives of all who knew him.
