Carl L. Fowler

September 23, 1929 March 10, 2026

Fort Wayne, IN

Carl L. Fowler, 96, of Fort Wayne, passed away on March 10, 2026, at home surrounded by his family. Born on September 23, 1929, he was the beloved husband of 71 years to Mary M. (Luedeke) Fowler and the devoted father of Marc (Carolyn), Lori, Julie, and the late Brian Fowler. The third eldest of eight children born to Glenn and Avis (Madden) Fowler, Carl grew up in an atmosphere of pranks, jokes, and wonderful storytelling that he lovingly passed on to future generations. A child of the Depression, he embraced the values of the Greatest Generation and carried them throughout his long life.

He graduated with the class of 1948 from Central High School and later studied at the Indiana Institute of Technology before being drafted into the Army in 1951. Carl served as Radio Sergeant with the 327th Operations Detachment in Japan. Faith remained at the center of his life; he and Mary were charter members of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Carl enjoyed golfing, camping, mushroom hunting, fishing, and travel. His family cherished their yearly vacations and adventures together, with his favorite being the trip to Alaska. He took great pride in having visited all 50 states and in the many countries he and Mary explored abroad.

After a 26-year career in the engineering department at Dana Corp., Carl retired and became a dedicated member of the Korean War Veterans Association, Chapter 1. He participated in school presentations, local television educational programs, and parades, and served as a board member for the Korean Veterans exhibit at the Veterans National Memorial Shrine and Museum. He was also a past Honor Guard member for the American Legion Post 82.

Carl was preceded in death by his siblings Lois Stana, James Fowler, Phyllis Gates, and William Fowler. He is survived by his wife Mary, his children, his siblings Joann Miller, Jack Fowler, and Kay McCabe, and his extended family who will carry forward the warmth, humor, and faith he shared with them all.
