Marie Brouillette ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell Funeral Home - Ipswich on Mar. 10, 2026.Marie Joan Brouillette, 91 Captain United States Navy Retired of Summerville, SC and formerly of Ipswich, died Friday, March 6, 2026. Born in Ipswich, June 1, 1934 she was the daughter of the late Armand M. and MaryJane R. (Lemieux) Brouillette, she was a 1952 graduate of Ipswich High School and received her RN from Lynn Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. Following three years employed as an operating nurse at Lynn Hospital she was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the US Air Force Nurse Corps and served six years of active duty at Air Force hospitals in Texas, England and Arizona. In 1966, she transferred to the Navy and continued her career with assignments in MA, MD, VA, TN, CA and a year with the Naval Support Activity in DaNang RVN.In 1967 she was in the first group of Naval Nurses assigned to the Naval hospital near DaNang that would provide major surgical care to casualties direct from the battle fields nearby. During her year of work in the receiving/operating room portion of care and treatment, she was involved in increasing the capability to provide a high level of care for the ever-increasing numbers of casualties.Having served 25 years in military nursing, Captain Brouillette retired in 1984 as the Director of Nursing Services at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, California. Among the decorations she received are the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal (4 awards).In Retirement she lived in Escondido, CA the next 24 years and moved to Summerville, SC in 2008.She was a lifetime member of the University of Virginia Alumni, the DAV and the MOAA. She also was a member of the VEW and the Navy Nurse Corps Association.She is survived by two brothers, Armand R. "Pete" Brouillette and his wife Irene, Brian M. Brouillette and his wife Arlene; five nephews David, Robert, Paul, Stephen Brouillette all of Ipswich, Michael Brouillette of CA; four nieces, Suzanne Auger and Julie Jillson of Ipswich, Marianne Thibodeau of ME, and Stephanie Brouillette of NH and many great nephews and nieces.Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Hope Church, 1 Pineswamp Road, Ipswich, on Tuesday, March 17th at 10am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich, on Monday, March 16th, from 4pm to 7pm.
