Age 96 years. Candido was born on October 3, 1929, in Mercedes, Texas to the late Francisco and Catarina (Barcenas) Sanchez. He entered the United States Army in 1951, where he served overseas in Germany during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in 1953. Prior to his retirement, Candido was employed by General Motors Grey Iron. He was an active member at each of the churches he attended. He was currently a member of St. Francis de Sales Parish, prior to that he was a member of St. Simon and Jude where he was a Funeral Sacristan, before that he was a member of Holy Rosary where spent many summers helping with Vacation Bible School and could also be found helping in any other way needed. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and loved going to Bingo, doing crafts, playing cards, and going to sporting events. He especially loved spending the day in Detroit watching the Tigers. He will be fondly remembered for his heart of gold, his playful demeanor and his warm smile.Surviving are his siblings, Reyes Sanchez, Rumalda "Nona" Mincy, Isabel Stroik, Rafael Sanchez, Jose Sanchez, and Beatrice Sanchez; and many nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his siblings and siblings-in-law, Felipa Sanchez, Juana (Jesus) Rodriguez, Rufino (Theodora "Lola") Sanchez, Enrique (Olga) Sanchez, Candida Muniz, Lois Sanchez, Jasper Mincy, Walter Stroik and Josephina Sanchez.Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at St. Francis de Sales Parish 3945 Williamson Road, Bridgeport. Rev. Fr. Alberto E. Vargas will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and American Legion Post # 439. Private burial will take place later in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
