Saskatoon, SK
Cameron Archibald, known affectionately as Cam, passed away on March 10, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on December 23, 1929, in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, to Charlie and Mabel Archibald, he grew up on the family farm, where he worked alongside his parents and on neighbouring farms. In November 1951, he moved to Prince Albert to begin his career with the Prince Albert Co-op.
In 1956, Cam married Florence Ellen Johnson, the love of his life. Together they raised six children—three daughters and three sons—first in Prince Albert and later in Saskatoon, where a promotion with Federated Co-op took the family in 1970. Cam dedicated 33 years to the Co-op retail system before retiring in 1984. After retirement, he and Florence returned to the family farm in Steep Creek, where they built a country home that became the centre of countless family gatherings. For 27 years they tended a bountiful garden, maintained a beautiful yard, and filled their days with travel, skiing, golfing, ice fishing, dancing, and the steady welcome of friends and family. In 2011, they moved back to Saskatoon to Circle Drive Place, where they formed another warm community.
Cam had a deep love for the outdoors. Family summers were spent camping and on road trips, and he shared many canoe expeditions with the Boy Scouts and with his sons. He and Florence travelled widely, with Ireland and visits to his children’s homes holding special places in his heart. A favourite tradition was returning each St. Patrick’s Day to a pub in Hickory, North Carolina, where a pewter beer mug engraved with his name waited for him. A lifelong volunteer, he served as a Boy Scout leader for 17 years, as a board member at Calvary United Church, and later on the Residents’ Council at Circle Drive Place. He could also recite long passages of Robert Service poetry from memory, bringing delight to family and friends alike.
Cam is survived by his wife of 69 years, Florence; his children Kim (Judy), Mary Ellen, Colleen (Brian), Robin (Chris), Craig, and Diane (Max); nine grandchildren, Jennifer (Jon), Jerith (Trish), Jonathan, Breanne (Mathieu), Madison (Greg), Chloe (Rob), Ben (Mel), Nicola (Matt), and Charly; eleven great-grandchildren; and his sisters Ruth Braaten and Beth (Jim) Laroque. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Ernie, his sisters Kathleen Cook and Lavina Baldwin, and his son-in-law Kip Gothard.
He will be remembered for his kindness, steady presence, warmth, and gentle humour. His quiet leadership and deep love for his family remain a lasting gift to all who knew him.
