Shelley, ID
Calvin Jackson Pirtle, 92, passed away on March 4, 2026. Born on July 25, 1933, in Midland, Texas, he was the first son of Preston Pirtle and Bessie Mae Wilson. He grew up with two brothers, Robert Neal (Bob) Pirtle and William Carl (Butch) Pirtle, and a sister, Joyce Marie Pirtle.
In 1957, Calvin married Alice Joann Barton in Soap Lake, Washington. The couple was later sealed in the Los Angeles California Temple in 1966. Together they raised three children: Elizabeth May, Darrell Scott, and Faith Laraine. Over the years, Calvin worked in construction, farming, and ranching, living in Texas, Arizona, California, Washington, and Idaho. Joann passed away in 2001. In 2004, he married Helen (Christensen) Cramer in Spokane, Washington.
Despite living with constant pain for the final sixty years of his life following several accidents, Calvin remained grateful for each day and never complained about his limitations. He found deep joy in his family, working with animals, riding horses, fishing, gardening, and reading. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served faithfully as a ward and stake missionary, as an ordinance worker in the Spokane Washington and Idaho Falls Idaho temples, and as a part-time security worker at the Idaho Falls Temple.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Joyce Evans, his brother Robert Pirtle, and his first wife Joann. He is survived by his wife Helen, his daughters Beth (Mike Ryen) and Faith Norris, his son Darrell (Amy), six grandchildren, and more than eleven great-grandchildren.
