St. Martinville, LA
Calvin J. Landry, 84, of St. Martinville, passed away on March 9, 2026, at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center.
Born on May 6, 1941, in St. Martinville, Calvin was a lifelong resident who built a vibrant life filled with meaningful connections and cherished memories. A self-employed entrepreneur, he dedicated himself to Landry’s Pepper Co. and owned the popular bar Heads or Tails in Lafayette, where he became a beloved fixture in the community. Known for his warm and genuine nature, Calvin never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He found joy in woodworking, cooking, and hunting, and was a skilled pool player who loved sharing the game with friends. His unique tradition of giving guardian angel pins to those he met reflected his deep desire to uplift others and offer comfort.
Calvin is survived by his children, Blake Landry (Samantha) and Jewel Hurst (John-David); grandchildren, Lake Menard and Sebastian Landry; and his siblings, Alfred Landry, Jr. (Debbie), Dolores Romero, and Elaine Breaux. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Landry, Sr. and Lucille Babin Landry; his brother, Russell Landry; and his brothers-in-law, Ward Breaux and Russell “Doc” Romero.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held in his honor at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, with Rev. Bill Melancon officiating. As per his wishes, cremation followed, with burial to take place at a later date.
