C Richard McAlister ObituaryPublished by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 9, 2026.C. Richard "Mac" McAlister passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the age of 79. He was born in Olney, Maryland on October 22, 1946, to Dorothy & Horace McAlister.Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Carole (Burdette) McAlister and his in-laws, Martha & Ray Luhn.He is survived by his two children, Cathy (George) Magas, MD & SC, and Ricky (Jill) McAlister, Mount Airy, along with his six grandchildren, Marc (Ali), Nick (Katie), Eric (Emily), and Alec (Tiffany) Magas and Abbey and Leslie ancé Spencer) McAlister, two great-grandsons, Cade and Riley Magas and great-granddaughter, Scottie Magas."Dickie", "Mac", "Gaggy" attended Damascus High School, graduating with the Class of 1964.He was a tremendous athlete, excelling in basketball also playing baseball, cross country, and soccer. He was a member of the Student Council & President of the Varsity Club.After high school, he played slow-pitch softball for many years and was on some top-notch teams, such as Tom & Ray's. He even won one Rotary Club Tennis Open and ran a marathon when he was over 50 years of age.Upon graduation, he attended Baltimore City Junior College and then Baltimore College of Commerce graduating Cum Laude in June of 1968, while working full time and commuting to night school.At the young age of 29, he & his wife started Orthodontic Supply & Equipment Company in Gaithersburg, MD in 1975. Recently celebrating 50 years in business, he was so proud of the many employees who have been there for decades and meant so much to him-especially Bruce, Kevin & Mark. He was a self-made success story, and he couldn't have been prouder when his son, Ricky, followed in his footsteps and took over running the company almost 30 years ago, carrying on his legacy & successes.Mac loved animals, especially his grand dogs, and so many others from years past-Benson, Brandy, Bella, Inky & Muffin. He was an avid sports fan and was a Redskins season ticket holder for many years. He loved baseball, especially the Orioles. More importantly, he spent countless hours at his grandkid's games, cheering on the Cougars & Hornets-some of his most favorite times. He loved playing poker, betting on the horses, his condo in Ocean City, breakfast with Ricky, reading the newspapers, and vitamins!Services will be held on Saturday, March 21 at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home in Damascus-3:00-4:00 viewing, short service following , with the Reverend Jerry Beall officiating. Immediately following, there will be a Celebration of Life at The Owls Club in Frederick.
