Byron Lawrence Allen, affectionately known as “B.A.,” was born on September 30, 1981, in Buffalo, New York, to Larry and Helen (Agurs) Allen. He later made his home in Hazlehurst, Georgia, where he graduated from Jeff Davis High School. In 2009, he earned his Master Cosmetology License and opened Designer Tapes Barbershop. Through his work, Byron built a successful business that became a welcoming space for community, conversation, and friendship. He was known for his dedication to his craft and the genuine connections he formed with everyone who sat in his chair.
Byron was a loving son, husband, father, and proud grandfather who cherished his family. He possessed a warm personality and a lively sense of humor, and he often reminded those around him with his favorite saying, “It is what it is,” reflecting his resilient outlook on life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gwanda (Thompson) Allen; his parents, Larry and Helen (Agurs) Allen; and his three sons, Malik Allen, Aahiyus Allen, and Bacarehe Allen. He was also the proud grandfather of three grandchildren: Ky’ree Allen, Milani Allen, and Kenai Allen. Byron is further survived by his aunts and uncles, Marilyn (James) House, Alice (Theodore) Davis, Rosie (Charles) Jackson, and Sherrie (Clayton) Horn, along with a host of cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
