Buddy Gene Stover

Buddy Gene Stover

March 16, 1937 March 12, 2026

Morenci, MI

Buddy Gene Stover passed away at his home in rural Morenci on March 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Elara Caring Hospice, just days before his 89th birthday. Born on March 16, 1937, in Ameagle, West Virginia, he was the second of four children born to Clifford and Flossie (Williams) Stover. He spent his early years in rural West Virginia before moving with his family at age 18 to Michigan, where he left the coal mines behind to begin a career in automotive manufacturing.

In 1960, Buddy married the love of his life, Joy Elaine Good, in Metz, Indiana. The couple settled in Munson in 1966, where they raised their five children and shared 59 years of marriage filled with faithfulness and cherished memories until Joy’s passing in 2019. A skilled craftsman, Buddy worked as a tool and die maker at Stubnitz-Green until its closure and later at Cargotainer in Adrian until his retirement. He remained deeply connected to his West Virginia roots, following WVU sports with passion—especially football—and cheering faithfully for his beloved Yankees. He found great enjoyment in coon hunting, raising fighting roosters, and making annual family pilgrimages back to West Virginia. Each summer he looked forward to taking his children and extended family to Cedar Point, creating lasting traditions. Above all, his family was the heart of his world; he rarely missed a game, school event, or special moment in the lives of his children and grandchildren, and he took special delight in rocking the newest babies as his family grew.

Buddy is remembered as a man of deep convictions who quietly lived out his Christian faith through a kind, easy-going, and gentle spirit. He is survived by his daughter, Lori (Kevin) Wilson of Morenci; three sons, Todd (Angela) Stover of Morenci, Sean (Becky) Stover of Napoleon, Ohio, and Brandon (Laura) Stover of Morenci; 13 grandchildren, Melodee, Heather, Brittany, Tiffany, Nick, Ali, Eli, Tyler, Macey, Colton, Grant, Austin, and Braylon; 14 great-grandchildren, Jadyn, Madelyn, Gracelyn, Kane, Benjamin, David, Matthew, Creed, Wren, Lilah, Sage, Miles, Bennett, and Kollyns; and two sisters-in-law, Sharon Stover of Fayette and Ona Mohler of Morenci.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joy, his son Jeffrey Noel Stover, his siblings Jackie Andrews, Franklin Stover, and Rudy Stover, and his grandson-in-law Dusty Timberman.
