Bryan “Turbo” Lasek of Ainsworth, Iowa, passed away on March 14, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family under hospice care after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. He was 65.
Born on April 21, 1960, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Raymond and Marjorie “Marge” (Hulen) Lasek, Turbo grew up in Ainsworth, attended Ainsworth Elementary, and graduated from Highland High School in 1978. He served in the United States Army National Guard as a medic. On February 17, 1990, he married Colleen Chalupa in Richmond, Iowa. Colleen was the love of his life, and he took great pride in their sons Jesse and Blake—whom he affectionately called “Willie”—and later in his grandson Preston, who brought him immense joy.
A lifelong farmer, Turbo raised Black Angus cattle and tended his crops with dedication and care. He served on the Washington County Farm Service Agency county committee from 2005 to 2013 and on the board of the Farmers Co-op Association from 2002 to 2011. He was also a founder of the Ainsworth Annual Great Tractor Ride. In his younger years he enjoyed river fishing for big flatheads and memorable fishing trips up north, where his entertaining fish stories kept everyone laughing around the table. Known for his quiet generosity, Turbo helped others without seeking recognition, and those who knew him knew they had a friend for life. He cherished taking ranger rides to check his cattle and sharing those moments with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen Lasek of Ainsworth; son Jesse (Betsy) Lasek of Ainsworth; son Blake (Molly Edgar) Lasek of Ainsworth; grandson Preston Lasek; and his cousin, who was more like a brother, John Downing of Salt Lake City, Utah. Turbo was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Marge Lasek.
