December 29, 1949— March 8, 2026
Cheyenne, WY
Bruce Stahle Asay, a long-time resident of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away on March 8, 2026. Born on December 29, 1949, in Lovell, Wyoming, to Harris and Mildred Asay, Bruce lived a life defined by hard work, dedication to his family, his country, his faith, and the law.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture and Sociology from Brigham Young University, where he met his wife, Diane. They married on June 29, 1974, and together built a loving home and legacy with their six children. Bruce served in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard, retiring with the rank of Brigadier General. In 1979, he received his law degree from the University of Wyoming and enjoyed a distinguished legal career. In 1996, he founded Associated Legal Group, and he later taught utilities law at the University of Wyoming. In 2004, he ran for U.S. Congress, an experience he treasured for the chance to travel across Wyoming and connect with its people.
Bruce was an avid adventurer who climbed the highest point in every state, summited more than twenty Colorado peaks above 14,000 feet—often with his children or grandchildren—and hiked Mt. Fuji in Japan in 2012. After turning 55, he completed four marathons, including St. George (twice), New York, and Logan, Utah, along with many half marathons and 5Ks with his family in support of causes they held dear. A devoted sports fan, he spent countless hours cheering for Central High, the University of Wyoming, and BYU teams, always ready with encouragement for family and friends.
A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bruce served a mission in Melbourne, Australia, and held many positions of service within the church. He remained deeply committed to helping others, both through his law practice and in his personal life, generously giving his time and talents to anyone in need.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; his children, Brigham (Kim), Emily, Chris, Meredith (Ben), Greg (Tricia), and Erin (Austin); his grandchildren, Zachary (Caroline), Madeline, Samuel, Jared, Alena, Natalie, Annie, Benjamin, Alex, Charlotte, Heston, Edward, and Eloise; and his great-granddaughter, Gwendolyn.
