February 20, 1958— March 12, 2026
South Jordan, UT
Brian Ray Moen, 68, of South Jordan, Utah, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 12, 2026.
Born on February 20, 1958, in Moorhead, Minnesota, to Lester and Cora Moen of Fargo, North Dakota, Brian was raised in Fargo as their only child. He graduated from Fargo North High School in 1977, later earning a degree in auto body repair from North Dakota State School of Science. He worked in the auto body and parts industry in the Fargo area before obtaining his CDL and beginning a career as a truck driver.
In March 1987, Brian met the love of his life, Sue (Susan) Bettenhausen, after placing an ad in the Person-to-Person column of the Fargo Forum. They married on October 17, 1987. In 1988, he proudly adopted Sue’s daughter Penny. Their daughter Krista and son Jeremy were born in the following years while the family lived in the Fargo area. In 1990, they moved to Hunter, North Dakota, before Brian took a job hauling asphalt for road construction in Utah. The family fell in love with the mountains and the Salt Lake Valley during that time, making Utah their permanent home in 1996. Brian later worked as a dedicated route driver for Ryder Logistics until 2002, when he underwent brainstem surgery at the University of Utah to remove a cavernous hemangioma. Though the surgery prevented him from returning to work, he remained active, continued learning, and eventually earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and, above all, cherished time spent with Sue, his children, and especially his grandchildren.
Brian is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Sue (Susan) Moen; his children Penny Scow, Krista (Zachary) Smith, both of West Jordan, and Jeremy Moen of South Jordan, Utah; and his beloved grandchildren Millie and Theron Scow and Paxton and Cora Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Cora Moen; his son-in-law Brandon Scow; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
