Brian E. Loftus, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, at Angela Hospice in Livonia, Michigan. Born on January 8, 1951, in Highland Park, Michigan, Brian lived a life defined by kindness, integrity, and a deep devotion to his family and community.
A 1974 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, Brian continued his service by joining the Michigan Air National Guard in 1981. He rose to the rank of Colonel in 1999 and retired in 2003, carrying with him a lifelong commitment to his country. From 1985 to 2012, he flew as a pilot for FedEx, sharing the skies with the same dedication he brought to all aspects of his life.
Since settling in Grosse Ile in 1987, Brian became a steadfast presence in his community. He served as Grosse Ile Township supervisor from 2008 to 2020, working tirelessly to improve the island he loved and cared for so deeply.
Brian shared 45 years of marriage with his wife, Ann Loftus (Fouche), having wed on September 13, 1980. Their partnership was marked by enduring love, mutual respect, and quiet strength. He was a proud and supportive father to Pat (Sarah) Loftus and Katie Loftus, always present with encouragement, wisdom, and laughter. His greatest joy came from his grandchildren, Nathan, Hannah, and Andrew, with whom he created cherished memories that will remain with them always.
Brian is survived by his siblings Larry (late Mary) Loftus, Nancy (Barry) Kaltz, Rick (late Jacquie) Loftus, John (Joanne) Loftus, Linda (Dan) Sheldon, and Kathy (Mike) Arend. He was preceded in death by his brother Tim Loftus and his parents, Richard and Janette Loftus. He was a loving uncle and great-uncle to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Brian’s warm spirit and generous heart touched everyone who knew him, leaving a legacy of love, service, and quiet strength that will continue to guide his family and community.
