Leawood, KS
Brenda Sharp, 97, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026. Born on July 11, 1928, in Nottingham, England, Brenda studied clothing design at Nottingham College of Art during World War II before pursuing business school and beginning her career as a legal secretary.
She married William King in England and later moved with him to Western Kansas, where she devoted herself to raising their family. A loving and active mother, she participated fully in her children’s lives, serving as a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother. Brenda enjoyed an active life filled with swimming, tennis, bridge, and gardening. She cherished holiday gatherings in Western Kansas with the King family.
In 1970, she married H.D. Sharp, and they remained together until his death in 2015. Brenda became a member of the Daughters of the British Empire in Kansas in 1985, where she participated in fundraising events such as the annual English Tea. She was also a member of the Senior Arts Council from 2007 to 2025 and the Greater Kansas City Art Association. Art was one of her greatest passions. She began painting in oils before discovering her love for watercolors. After taking her first watercolor class in 1990, she became deeply dedicated to her art around 2000 and began exhibiting her work. She studied painting through K-State Extension, Johnson County Community College, and with local artists including Jim Ryan and Claudette Danbury.
A longtime member of Valley View Methodist Church since 1965, Brenda volunteered on the church’s wedding committee and at St. Joseph Hospital. In 2016, she moved to Town Village of Leawood, where she met Wes Lloyd, a fellow widower. They shared many happy years together, enjoying travel, dining, walks, and one another’s company.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, William R. King and Harry D. Sharp; her son, Vincent MacGregor King; and her daughter, Rebecca Marie King. Brenda is survived by her daughter, Angela (Robert) Tunison; her sister, Sylvia MacGregor; her grandsons, Michael (Senta) Vincent Kraft and Lawrence (Emily) Joseph Kraft Jr.; and her great-grandchildren, Clover, Hazel, Olive, and Julian.
