Brenda Kay Woods

Brenda Woods, born on November 27, 1950 in Carbondale, Illinois to Harold and Clara Riggs, passed away after a life devoted to family and the people she loved. She married her husband and soul mate, Joe Woods, on May 30, 1969 in Carbondale. Together they shared many happy years camping, traveling, and creating cherished memories on cabin trips.

Brenda was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother who found joy in crafting and spending quiet time with her beloved dog, Lilly. An avid supporter of women’s basketball, she faithfully followed the Carbondale Terriers and the Southern Illinois Salukis, holding those games and moments close to her heart.

She is survived by her daughters Kathy Jo “Kat” (C.J.) Powell-Watts of Colorado and April Lee Vaughn of Cambria; grandchildren Josh Trammel, Kloey Powell, Claire Woods, Gavyn Powell, Victoria Vaughn, James Vaughn, Zachary Watts, Logan Watts, and Raegan Watts; and great-grandson Jackson Trammel. Brenda was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Joe Woods.
