Brenda Joyce Matheson

Brenda Joyce Matheson, 76, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2026.

Born on October 27, 1949, in Danville, Virginia, to the late Herman Layne and Ella Mae Wallace Layne, Brenda found deep joy in life’s quieter pleasures. She loved fishing and the peaceful rhythm of being near the water and outdoors. Animals were a great source of comfort and affection for her, especially her beloved dog, who remained her constant companion.

Those who knew Brenda described her as a genuinely good person—kind, caring, and always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. Her warm spirit, love for animals, and appreciation for nature left a lasting impression on family and friends alike.

She is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Matheson and Tina Keller (Tim); grandchildren, Nicholas Johnson and Darrian Johnson (Jeffrey Waugh); great-grandchildren, Freya Waugh and Fenris Waugh; and brothers, David Layne and Cecil Layne. Brenda will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for the gentle, loving person she was.
