Brenda Joan Axtell

Brenda Joan Axtell, affectionately known as Joan, was born on February 7, 1957, in the quaint town of Hallettsville, Texas. She brought joy and warmth into the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. A dedicated retired secretary, Joan was a woman of compassion, a true caregiver whose kindness extended to friends and even strangers alike.

Joan's life journey came to a close on March 8, 2026, leaving behind an indelible legacy of love and generosity. She was a vibrant member of Charis Church in Killeen, Texas, where her spirit and faith were a source of inspiration to many. Her interests included following the Dallas Cowboys with unwavering passion, engaging in coloring and crossword puzzles, and cultivating a love for flowers, which she cherished dearly. She had a magical way of making each moment spent with family and friends feel special and cherished.

Joan's family was her pride and joy. She is survived by her beloved husband, John Axtell, who stood by her side in Killeen, Texas. Their bond was a true testament to love, partnership, and unwavering support. She was a proud mother to her son, Johnny Thomas (Sara) Axtell of Austin, Texas, and a devoted mother to her daughter, Stacy (Dathan) Dunson of Killeen. As a grandmother, Joan's heart swelled with love for her grandchildren—Jeran, Tyler, Ravyn, Noah, and Lucy—each of whom brought light into her life.

The warmth of Joan's family extended further, with her loving siblings—Dewayne Thompson of Barksdale, Texas; Lou Ethridge of Camp Wood, Texas; Sue Bates of Killeen, Texas; Jeanie Thompson of Killeen, Texas; and Twila Wimberly of Leaky, Texas—who shared countless fond memories with her. She was the heart of her family, a guiding light, and her absence will be profoundly felt by all.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, B.J. and Faye Dell Thompson, whose love and values she carried with her throughout her life, and by her brother, David Thompson, who remains in their hearts.

Friends, family, and all who loved Joan are invited to celebrate her life on March 13, 2026, at Crotty Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Belton, Texas. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM.

While we grieve the loss of Joan, we also take comfort in the beautiful memories she has left behind. Her spirit, vibrant and full of love, will forever reside within the hearts of those she touched.
