Brenda Jean (Karney) Vaughan-York

1941 — 2026

Spring, TX

Brenda Jean (Karney) Vaughan-York passed away on March 10, 2026. Born on February 5, 1941, in Hopkins, Texas, to Wilbur Willis Karney and Fannie Mae (Burkham) Karney, she was the eldest of four children. She spent her earliest years on a family farm before the family moved to Dallas, where she graduated from WW Samuel High School in 1959.

Shortly after graduation, Brenda married her first love, Harold Gene Vaughan. The couple spent the first sixteen years of their marriage in Dallas before moving to Spring, Texas, in 1975. Together they raised two children, David Michael Vaughan and Laurie Kay (Vaughan) Beavers, instilling in them strong moral values and offering unwavering support for their interests. After 46 years of marriage, Harold passed away in December 2005. In 2013, Brenda found love again and married Joe York Sr. on November 9. The couple shared twelve joyful years together.

Brenda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who expressed her love through generosity and a deep commitment to helping others. She cherished her two grandchildren, Erin Beavers and Lisa Beavers, whom she called her angels, and treasured both their childhood memories and their time together as adults, including a recent Broadway musical outing. An avid reader, she particularly enjoyed historical fiction and had recently reread the 900-page Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone from the Outlander series. She also took great pleasure in her frequent visits to Kohl’s, always armed with coupons and Kohl’s Cash.

Brenda was preceded in death by her first husband Harold Vaughan, her brother Richard Karney, and her brother-in-law Gary Kines. She is survived by her husband Joe York Sr., her son David Michael Vaughan, her daughter Laurie Kay Beavers (Brian), grandchildren Erin Beavers (partner Chris Paul) and Lisa Beavers (fiancé August Nguyen), sisters Sandra Gammill (Mack) and Rhonda Kines, five bonus children and grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and their families.
