April 11, 1958— March 9, 2026
Port Clinton, OH
Brenda Fisher passed away suddenly but peacefully on March 9. Born to David and Joyce Moore in Hudson, Michigan, Brenda grew up on the family farm with her siblings Brent, Bradene, and Brenee. It was there she first developed her lifelong love of books and deep fascination with the natural world. In high school she thrived in the school band, drama productions, and on the basketball court. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Michigan State University, specializing in English-Language Arts with a minor in mathematics.
Brenda began her teaching career at Evergreen High School in 1980 before joining Cardinal Stritch High School in Oregon, Ohio, where she taught English and math, ran a reading lab, and served as Dean of Students. She also directed numerous school drama and musical productions. While at Stritch she earned her Master’s Degree from Siena Heights College and met her future husband, Keith. The couple married in July 1987 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Port Clinton and made their home in Oak Harbor before settling permanently in Port Clinton. They were blessed with two daughters, Kelsey and Sara.
Deeply involved at Trinity United Methodist Church, Brenda sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school, helped serve community Thanksgiving dinners, and decorated the church for Christmas. She later served as choir director and education director for many years. When her daughters reached school age, she returned to the classroom as a substitute teacher at Port Clinton City Schools, where she raised student proficiency scores in English and math at the middle school. She continued supporting student drama productions alongside Keith, creating intricate handmade costumes and painting scenic backdrops.
From 2000 to 2024, Brenda taught at Fremont City Schools, first at the middle school and then at the high school, where she taught all levels of English, including AP courses, and served as English Department Chair. She developed a TV production class, coached the speech and debate team, and mentored both students and fellow teachers. Her influence touched many lives, with former students often returning to express their gratitude. After nearly four decades in education, she retired and happily returned to the creative pursuits of her youth. An accomplished seamstress, she took up quilting and fabric home décor, worked alongside Keith at his craft shows, remained a voracious reader, and delighted in the birds and plants that filled her home and classroom windows.
Brenda will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband Keith, daughters Kelsey and Sara, brother Brent (Cathy) Moore, sisters Bradene (Pat) Moore-Howard and Brenee Moore, nephews Josh and Jake Moore, Will (Smitha) Howard, and niece Mora (Mike) Rutledge.
