Mrs. Brenda Banton Riddle of South Boston passed away on March 10, 2026 at the age of 73. Born in Lynchburg, Virginia on February 23, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Van Edward Banton, Jr. and the late Betty Doss Banton. She was married to the late Samuel L. “Sonny” Riddle, Jr.
A longtime member of Black Walnut Baptist Church, Brenda spent her career as an X-ray technician at Halifax Regional, where she took genuine satisfaction in helping others. She found quiet joy in watching hummingbirds at her feeders and cherished above all the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Samuel L. “Chip” Riddle, III and wife Ashley of South Boston, and Sara Frances Riddle and fiancé Timothy Garner of South Boston; grandsons Riley Thomas Riddle, Brantley Warren Garner, Ian Edward Riddle, Liam Curtis Riddle, and Bronson Walter Garner; siblings Van Edward Banton, III and wife Debbie of Concord, Virginia, Connie Banton Hensley of Huddleston, Virginia, and Diana Banton Smith of Rustburg, Virginia, as well as her special friend “Cujo.” She was preceded in death by her brother, John Snead Banton, and brother-in-law, Gene Hensley.
