Brenda Armstrong

Brenda Armstrong

Newport News, VA

Brenda Carol Armstrong, born on June 4, 1952 to the late Fred E. Sr. and Coretha Armstrong, passed away on March 4, 2026 in Newport News, Virginia. Raised in Newport News, she graduated from Huntington High School in 1970 as a proud Viking and went on to graduate from Hampton Institute in 1974. She was a lifelong member of Second Baptist Church East End, where she belonged to the Card Club and remained faithful in her walk with Christ.

Brenda enjoyed a long and dedicated career with the Newport News Police Department, serving more than twenty years as Secretary at the East End Precinct and later as Executive Secretary in the Chief’s Office. She was affectionately known by officers as “Ms. Armstrong.” She had a sharp eye for language and took great pleasure in correcting spelling and punctuation, earning the loving nickname “Grammar Police” from her nieces and nephews. In her personal time, she found joy in reading, thrifting, collecting stationery, and watching classic films. She was a regular participant in programs at the Newport News Public Library, where she took classes on everything from computer skills to styling head wraps. Her thrift store adventures fueled her love for vintage dishes, cutlery, and craft supplies.

She leaves to cherish her memory her siblings Fred Jr. (Delilah), Frances, Nelson, and Mark; nephew Philip Armstrong (Frances); nieces Sacil, Tenia, and Annese; great-nephews Elijah, Isaiah, and Justice Jenkins; and great-niece Makayla Watson.
