Boyd John Holdaway
July 26, 1949— March 6, 2026
Provo, UT
Boyd John Holdaway, 76, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, in the Provo home he built 36 years ago. Born in 1949 in Lehi to Robert and Edna (Fugal) Holdaway, he was raised in Pleasant Grove alongside his five siblings—Jeanne, David, Steven, Barbara, and Debbie—in a close-knit family that shaped his deep sense of faith, family, and quiet determination.
A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Boyd served a mission in the British North Mission from 1969 to 1971. He continued to serve faithfully in many callings throughout his life, including as a BYU bishop and in several stake leadership roles. He particularly cherished his time working in the library, where he enjoyed connecting with his ward family, and remained steadfast in his commitment to helping those in need.
In 1972, Boyd married Louise Wilson in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised three children: Hilary, Katie, and Andy. After working alongside his father in the family business, he returned to college and graduated from Brigham Young University in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering. He went on to work in aerospace and industrial fields, including at General Dynamics in San Diego and Valtek in Springville, before spending 25 years at Niels Fugal Sons Company in Pleasant Grove, where he worked alongside cousins and formed many lasting friendships. He retired in 2019.
Boyd was a quiet, discerning man known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering integrity. He approached life with honesty and humility, always willing to lend a hand—whether operating a backhoe, fixing what was broken, or simply being present for others. He loved reading historical nonfiction, cheering for BYU sports, and sharing lighthearted moments with his family, such as wearing silly hats or letting his children and grandchildren paint his toenails. Above all, he cherished his role as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, viewing his children as his greatest accomplishment.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Louise (Wilson); his children Hilary Checketts (Tim), Katie Atkins (Kenny), and Andy Holdaway (Courtney); seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
