Arlington, TX

Boyce Celton Megason, 92, of Arlington, Texas, passed away on March 9, 2026. Born on November 20, 1933, in New Boston, Texas, he lived a life defined by deep devotion to family, quiet service to others, and a steadfast faith that guided him through every season.

Family was the heart of Boyce’s world. He was the kind of man who showed up without being asked, offered help freely, and loved in a way that made those around him feel safe and valued. Having grown up with very little, he developed a strong work ethic early in life and carried that grit and determination with him always.

Boyce’s commitment to service began at a young age. At just 14, he joined the U.S. Army, demonstrating remarkable courage and a desire to contribute to something greater than himself. That same sense of duty shaped his long career in law enforcement. He retired from the Arlington Police Department on May 25, 1990, after years of dedicated service. He worked undercover in narcotics, served as Police Chief at the University of Texas at Arlington in the 1970s, and provided security for both President George H. W. Bush and President George W. Bush. His professionalism earned him the Police Officer of the Year award.

Outside of his work, Boyce embraced life with an adventurous spirit. In his younger years he boxed and practiced Tae Kwon Do. He and his wife, Janet, shared a love for scuba diving, creating cherished memories together in places like Cozumel and their favorite destination, the Grand Cayman Islands. He was a longtime supporter of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys, enjoyed simple comforts such as scrambled eggs and toast, cheeseburgers, and strawberry shakes from Braum’s, and held a special fondness for the Fourth of July, an occasion made even more meaningful when he was named Grand Marshal of the Arlington Fourth of July Parade.

A man of quiet faith, Boyce was a longtime member of Meadow Lane Baptist Church, Tate Springs Baptist Church, and later Fielder Road Baptist Church. His beliefs were reflected not in words alone, but in the kindness, integrity, and care he showed to others.

Boyce was preceded in death by his mother, Murner M. Thompson; brothers Bryant and Billy Megason; son-in-law Anthony Schwiger; and beloved great-grandson Cooper Allen. He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Edna “Janet” Megason; daughters Kathy Schwiger and Sue Duncan (Daniel); granddaughters Rachel Timmons (Brian) and Michele Allen (Collin); grandson Marc Saunders; great-grandchildren Jaron Saunders, Abigail Timmons, Levi, Madison, and Jordan Allen; sister Charlcie Easley; and many friends who will carry his memory in their hearts.
