Bonita "Nita" Jeannette Russ

Bonita "Nita" Jeannette Russ, 69, of Fayetteville, passed away on March 11, 2026, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Born on July 9, 1956, in Duplin County to the late Wilbur and Alice Bostic, Nita was a woman of deep faith who faithfully attended Gourd Springs Baptist Church. She found purpose in teaching children and sharing her love of the Lord with them. Nita had a quiet creative spirit and took great pleasure in tending her garden, watching her flowers bloom, and crafting handmade Christmas tree ornaments each year for her family, a tradition they held dear. She also had a tender heart for animals, especially cats, often welcoming strays into her home and giving them care and safety.

She enjoyed sports and cherished attending Marksmen hockey games with her loved ones. Above all, Nita treasured time spent with her family and will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Owen. Nita is survived by her loving husband, Cleo Russ; daughters, Stephanie (Tonya) and Angela (John); grandchildren, Travis (Hannah), Shyla (Chandler), and Dustin; great-grandchildren, Avery, Sayaun, and Waylon; sister, Terri (Connie); brothers, Greg (Karen) and Jeff (Renee); aunt, Jane (Tommy); grand-dog, Jake; and her beloved cats.
