Charlestown, IN
Bob Stidham, a beloved member of his community and dedicated family man, passed peacefully at his residence in Charlestown, Indiana, on March 10, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on August 21, 1936, in Whitesburg, Kentucky, he lived a life marked by service, creativity, and deep affection for his family.
For most of his life, Bob found joy in construction while also ministering for over 40 years. He was a founding member who established and built Freedom Gospel Church, where he served as pastor. His caring nature, abundant wisdom, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He enjoyed fishing trips with his grandsons, working in his shop, painting, camping, gardening, and studying the Bible. He was known for his baking and for creating music on nearly any stringed instrument, especially the banjo and mandolin. Together with his late wife Lavania, he raised funds for the Crusade for Children through square dancing and playing music.
Bob took great pride in writing and publishing his book and sharing his teachings with others. A US Army veteran, he carried a strong sense of duty and commitment throughout his life.
He is survived by his cherished grandsons, Grant Miles and Justin Miles, along with many nieces, nephews, family members, and church family who will carry forward his legacy and the treasured memories they shared. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Alta (Fields) Stidham; his loving wife, Lavania Stidham; his brothers, Darrell, Alvin, and Dorris Stidham; and his sisters, Lula Fields, Shirley Kelly, Sue Thomas, Louise Whitaker, Pearl Banks, and Evelyn Banks.
