Birgit Susanne Drouin

Birgit Susanne Drouin, 63, of Meadowview, Virginia, passed away at her home on March 11, 2026. Born on March 15, 1962, in Aschaffenburg, Germany, alongside her twin sister Claudia, Birgit welcomed her only child, Daniel Heininger, in Wasserlos, Germany, in 1980. In the spring of 1989, she met the love of her life, Chris Drouin, at her sister Eva’s wedding while Chris was stationed in Hanau, Germany, as a United States Army soldier. The couple married that fall in Germany, and Birgit moved to the United States with her new husband. They lived in several cities before building their home in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, in 1996.

In 2008, Birgit became a United States citizen and embraced her new country with deep pride. She remained devoted to the colors red, white, and blue, joyfully incorporating them into everything she created. After many years in North Carolina, she and Chris built their dream home in Meadowview, Virginia, in 2023 to be closer to their son Daniel and his growing family. Birgit took great pride in turning their hilltop house into a warm and welcoming haven where she spent her final years.

An avid gardener with a remarkable green thumb, Birgit could coax life from any soil. She was a gifted homemaker, cook, florist, and friend whose loving presence touched everyone around her. She is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, Chris Drouin; her son Daniel Heininger and his wife Elizabeth; her grandchildren Stevie Grace and Colter Heininger; her twin sister Claudia Horn of Germany; her oldest sister Eva Radwanski of Germany; and dear friends who became family, Matt Bost and his wife Zoe and their children Daisy and Jackson Bost of Mount Airy, North Carolina, along with many other loving friends.
