Billye Hughes ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson Funeral Home - Childress on Feb. 27, 2026.Billye Morris Hughes passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026, in Childress, Texas.Visitation will be on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation hours on Saturday are from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.Billye Morris Hughes was born on January 28, 1951, in Childress, Texas, to Billy Hughes and Jorine (Hawthorne) Hughes.Billye enjoyed being outside and working on cars. Billye had a knack for building houses. He started Four Star Construction with his adopted sons, and together they built many projects. Inside his home, he would host Thursday night rap sessions, which included teaching black history, Bible study, and watching movies; all the youth would attend these sessions. His family will remember him for how much he devoted his life to instill God into those he loved. Billye especially enjoyed writing his sermons; his lessons will live on in the hearts of those he impacted for a lifetime.Billye is survived by:Daughter- Lakisha Rolfe and husband Johnny of ChildressSon- Darrin Keith Hughes of AmarilloSon- Jack Jennings of Cincinnati, OhioGrandchildren- DaShoud R. Hughes of Amarillo; Shoudasia C. Pettigrew of Childress; Darrin Keith Hughes Jr. and wife Haylen of Amarillo; Markayzha Moore of Amarillo; Kianna Moore of Amarillo; Zachary Hughes of Amarillo; Christopher Saxon of Seattle, Washington; Camile Saxon of Seattle, WashingtonGreat Grandchildren- Mia Hughes of Amarillo; Armoni Deschamp of Amarillo; Romeo Deschamp of Amarillo along with numerous extended family members and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Billye is preceded in death by his wife, Marcella Hughes; parents, Billy Hughes and Jorine (Hawthorne) Hughes; brothers, Charles R. Hughes, Clemmie B. Hughes, Alvin Hughes, and Little David Hughes; sisters, Annie Ruth Jeter, Doris Louise Hughes, Ruby Nell Weeks; grandchild, Marianna Levi.The family would like to extend special thanks to the Hospice staff at CRMC, the staff at United Pharmacy, Dr. Jacob Darter, and the nursing staff, Kristen with Adult Protective Services, and the staff at Wellington State Bank.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
