Billy R. Borton

Billy R. Borton

June 19, 1946 March 9, 2026

Massillon, OH

Billy R. Borton, 79, of Massillon, formerly of Dalton, passed away on March 9, 2026 at Aultman Hospital.

Born on June 19, 1946 in Barnesville, Ohio, to the late Joseph and Eva (Moore) Borton, Billy served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. He attended Massillon Baptist Temple and shared 57 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Linda J. (Savage) Borton. A proud father, he guided his children with laughter and wisdom, and as a grandfather, his stories, jokes, and warm presence created memories his grandchildren will carry forever.

Billy held a deep love for music throughout his life. For 40 years he played the fiddle with Larry Efaw and The Bluegrass Mountaineers, performing across nine states and Canada. He also played piano, mandolin, and guitar, and was known for his singing and joyful yodeling. His spirited fiddle playing and lively spirit often filled rooms with laughter and brought people together through the simple pleasure of music.

He began his career with an apprenticeship at Frantz Brothers, later owning and operating Borton Construction, and worked part-time in recent years at Ohio Outdoor Structures. Above all, Billy was a dedicated family man remembered for his warm smile, easy laughter, jokes, and the familiar cigar in his mouth.

He is survived by his wife, Linda J. (Savage) Borton; children, Russell “Todd” (Kim) Borton and Wendy (Matt) August; grandchildren, Brendt (Anna) August, Brock (Samantha) August, Brooklyn (Ryan Housely) August, Brayden Millard, and Bryce Borton; sisters, Virginia Laase, Betty Kaser, Joan Miller, and Linda Yoder; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Louella Sidel, Orland Borton, Tillman Borton, Rudy Borton, Johnny Borton, Herbert Borton, and Curtis Borton.
