Billy E. “Bill” Ross, age 75, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Noblesville on February 18, 1951, he was the son of the late John Ross, Sr. and Dorothy (Baldwin) Ross.
Bill spent 27 years as a respected and beloved mechanic with the Lawrence Township Fire Department, retiring in 2010. He had a lifelong passion for restoring classic vehicles and took special pride in working on his 1968 Chevy C-10 pickup with his sons, Steven and Jeremy. An enthusiastic participant at car shows, he was also an avid camper who was affectionately known as “The Mayor” at Paradise Point Campground.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Jean (Frazier) Ross, whom he married on January 21, 1968, and remarried on June 26, 1999. Bill leaves behind his children, Dawn Ross-Webb of Indianapolis, Steve (Kristi) Ross of Muncie, and Jeremy (Lori) Ross of Lawrence, as well as his sister Diane (Jerry) Barrett and brother Ed (Lucy) Ross. He was a proud grandfather to Justin (Natalie) Webb, Nicole (Aaron) McCormick, Allison (Travis) Smith, Lacy (Mitchell) Grosser, Kyle Riedling, and Olivia Ross, and cherished seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Madison Ross, his brothers John Ross, Jr. and Tom Ross, and his parents.
