Beverly Jean Hannon, née Beach, 85, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026. A graduate of Wittenberg University where she studied English, Beverly possessed a deep love of literature and language that made her a gifted storyteller. She delighted her children, grandchildren, and schoolchildren alike by reading classic books aloud, complete with distinctive voices and sound effects that brought the stories to life.
Though not naturally adventurous, Beverly supported her first husband, David L. Beach, on numerous expeditions she would not have undertaken on her own. Together they hiked the Grand Canyon twice, canoed the Ohio River and navigated its locks, and walked sections of the Appalachian Trail, where she earned the trail name “Granny 2 Sticks.” She was also known for her remarkable talent at garage sales, a skill her family believed deserved an honorary PhD. Beverly remained deeply involved in her church for many years until she could no longer drive.
In January 2003, Beverly married Bill Hannon. For the next 23 years they shared a quiet, loving companionship filled with sporting events, travel, ice cream outings, and the many dogs they cherished. She is survived by her husband Bill Hannon and his daughters, Connie Hannon and Heather Hannon; her daughter, Dawn Beach of Cave Creek, Arizona; her son, Steve Beach of Marysville, Ohio; her sister, Sandy Lee of Louisville, Kentucky; and her grandchildren, Stephen JL Beach of Chicago, Illinois, and Allexis Beach of Marysville, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, David L. Beach.
In accordance with her wishes, Beverly will be laid to rest at Ferncliff Cemetery.
