Bettye Louise Mitchell

Bettye Louise Mitchell, age 83, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026. A longtime member of Grace Baptist Church for more than thirty years, she was affectionately known as the “hot tamale lady” for growing enormous peppers that she freely shared with family, friends, and even her doctors. She found joy in yard sales, gardening, playing with her dogs, boot-scooting, and dancing. Above all, she cherished time spent loving on her grandbabies and lived with a deep and abiding faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert L. Mitchell; daughter, Colleen Ball; sister, June Hall; brother, Bud Nichols; and parents, Bessie and Elmer Nichols.

Bettye is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Cooper (Ted); sons, Herbert Mitchell, Jr. (Angelia) and Rob Mitchell; grandchildren, Eric, Aaron, Jennifer, Samantha, and Katie; along with a host of great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and two special lifelong friends, Irene Guinn and Billie Offit, as well as many other dear friends.
