Betty Lee Scott, age 74, of Americus, Georgia, passed away on March 10, 2026, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, surrounded by her family.
Born Betty Lee Bell on June 23, 1951, in Americus to Luther Edward Bell and Iona Graham Bell, she graduated from Americus High School and went on to attend Georgia Southwestern College and the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. For many years she preached at Magnolia Manor in Buena Vista, Georgia, and later retired as a bookkeeper and jack-of-all-trades at Agrium/IMC in Americus. She enjoyed quilting, collecting, spending time with her grandchildren, and gathering with friends and family for lunch at Pat’s Place. Except for a period in Atlanta while her former husband Ronald Scott served in the GBI, Betty Lee lived her entire life in Americus. She served as past president of the Junior Service League and was deeply respected and well-loved in her community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Iona Bell, her stepmother Margaret Bell, and her siblings Iona Henderson and Luther Bell, Jr. Betty Lee is survived by her daughters Meg (Chris) Usrey of Americus and Emily (Freddie) Odom of Bluffton, Georgia; her grandchildren Sam Usrey (Katie Dooley) of Decatur, Georgia, and Miriam Odom of Bluffton; her sister-in-law Sandy Bell of Palm Springs, California; her nieces Hope Henderson of Americus, Leila Toms of Panama City, Florida, and Jordan Bell of Los Angeles, California; and her nephews Jason Bell of Charlotte, North Carolina, David Bell of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Brad Bell of Los Angeles, California, and Gene Henderson of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina.
