Betty Joyce Sayers, 92, of Baytown, Texas, passed away on March 13, 2026. Born on November 11, 1933, in Maydelle, Texas, she was the daughter of Carl and Kate Durrett.

A proud graduate of Stephen F. Austin who later earned her master’s degree, Betty spent many years as an educator and was a longtime member of the Texas State Teachers Association. She touched countless lives through her dedication to teaching and her genuine desire to help others learn and grow. Grounded in faith and service, she lived with quiet strength and deep commitment to her family and community.

Outside the classroom, Betty found joy in sewing, gardening, and tending to her plants. An avid sports fan, she cheered for the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Astros, sharing a special fondness for the mascot Orbit. In her younger years, she played softball in an all-women’s league.

Betty’s greatest joy was her family. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 73 years, Ralph Sayers, and her parents, Carl and Kate Durrett.
