Sedgwick, CO

Betty Walter of Sedgwick, Colorado, passed away on March 12, 2026, in Julesburg, Colorado.

Born on February 6, 1935, Betty was the oldest of six children born to Walter Carl and Rebecca Jane Lueth. Baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith as a girl, she graduated as valedictorian from Sedgwick High School in 1953. In 1957 she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business with a major in Medical Record Administration from the University of Colorado in Boulder. That same year she passed the national board examination of the American Medical Record Association and became a Registered Record Administrator.

After graduation, Betty served as Director of Medical Records at Weld County Hospital in Greeley and at Craig Rehabilitation Center in Denver. She later worked for Hamilton Funds Corporation in Denver before her marriage. On February 14, 1960, she and Adam John Walter were united in marriage at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Julesburg. Returning to Sedgwick County, Betty worked as a Medical Record Consultant for various health facilities in northeastern Colorado and as Medical Record Director at Sedgwick County Hospital. She established formal medical record departments where none existed and trained staff to maintain them.

In 1978, Betty turned her focus to supporting her husband on their farm and ranch while continuing to maintain her professional registration through regular continuing education. A longtime member of the Sedgwick Community Presbyterian Church, she served as both Deaconess and Elder.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Adam John Walter; her adoptive parents, Walter Carl and Rebecca Jane Lueth; infant brother Billy Joe; sister Burness Joyce at age 12; brothers Robert Leon Lueth and John Nolan Lueth; niece Jennifer Sue Lueth at age 19; and brother-in-law Donald Weinsheim. She is survived by her sister, Beverly Jane Weinsheim; sisters-in-law Deborah Lueth and Theresa Lueth; and many nieces and nephews.
