Betty Avera Powell, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on Thursday, August 25, 1938, in Blakely, Georgia, Betty spent her later years as a cherished resident of Arlington, Georgia, surrounded by family and friends.
She dedicated her life to caring for others as a registered nurse. Her compassion and dedication touched countless lives through both her professional work and her personal relationships. A devoted member of the Bainbridge Methodist Church, she also attended the Arlington Methodist Church when her health permitted.
Betty is survived by her loving children, Raymond Lee Powell Jr. and his wife Angel of Bainbridge, Georgia, Christopher Torrey Powell and his wife Shannon of Leesburg, Georgia, and Joshua Joel Powell and his wife Marcia of Arlington, Georgia. She was a proud grandmother to Marianna Powell, Marissa Powell, Dallas Rogers, Ethan Powell, Madison Powell, and Harrison Powell, and a great-grandmother to Garrison Rogers. She is also survived by her dear sisters, Carolyn Wilkins and her husband Edward of Edison, Georgia, and Ouida Tedder of Leesburg, Georgia, along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Avera and Annie Lou Avera, her beloved husband Raymond Lee Powell Sr., and her brothers Ralph Avera and Ray Avera. Betty will be remembered for her unwavering love, kindness, and dedication to her family and community. Her legacy of compassion and service continues to inspire all who knew her.
