Bette Sue Hinshaw Cline, 84, of Moneta, Virginia, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026. Born on September 4, 1941, in Muncie, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth Hinshaw and Thema Macy Hinshaw. She was the beloved wife of Nelson Cline for 60 years.

Bette graduated from Muncie Central High School and went on to study English and Library Science at Ball State University. She devoted her career to librarianship, serving in libraries in Cincinnati, Morrow, and Mason, Ohio, as well as at Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. In her later years, she continued her work as a librarian in Rocky Mount and Westlake, Virginia. A lifelong Quaker, she was an active member of Friends Meetings in Muncie, Cincinnati, and Greensboro. She found great joy in reading, knitting, and volunteering with several organizations around Smith Mountain Lake, including many years of dedicated service with Lake Christian Ministries.

Bette is survived by her husband of 60 years, Nelson Cline; her son, Matthew; her daughter, Michelle Holmes; grandchildren Madison Murphy Cline, Skye Holmes, and Greyson Holmes; niece Sharon Schamberg; nephew Steven Sumner; and many great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Julia Sumner.
