Bethany-Lyn Hoyne

April 16, 1984 March 12, 2026

Lisbon, IL

Bethany-Lyn “Buffy” Hoyne, 41, of Lisbon, passed away on March 12, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her beloved son, Austin, 12; her mother, Reja Jager, and stepfather, Bill Jager, of Lisbon; her siblings, Lynae Hoyne of Surprise, Arizona, Dylan (Melissa) Hoyne of Waterman, Nikky Hoyne of Lisbon, Nathan (Stephanie) Hoyne of Crest Hill, Cori Hoyne of Lisle, Levi (Michelle) Jager of Ottawa, and Renni (Domenic) Fisher of Newark; and many fond nieces and nephews, Rachel, Jacob, Connor, Derek, Brantley, Ethan, Hunter, Henry, Violet, Madelyn, Rose, Lily, and Everleigh. She also leaves behind many cousins, her former fiancé Steve Vanderbaan, and close friends Bryant Z. and Cindy H. She was preceded in death by her father, Darryl Hoyne.

Buffy grew up on a small farm in unincorporated Willowbrook, where she helped raise show sheep, dairy goats, and her pet cow, Moopy. Homeschooled as a child, she became very active in gymnastics. She later attended Bryant & Stratton College in Ohio to study business. After returning to Illinois, she worked as a cook at Carmelite Carefree Village in Darien and then as a prep and assistant cook for several area restaurants, including Eddie Merlot’s in Burr Ridge. Her last position was as a rodman and eventual office assistant at the former Range 9 Land Surveying in Newark.

She loved dolphins, anything related to Tigger, and the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Handy with a toolkit, she made friends easily and rarely judged others. Known for her constant smile, cheerful disposition, and strong work ethic, she enjoyed Rascal Flatts, attended many country music festivals, and found her greatest passion in cooking. In her final years, even while bedridden, she watched cooking shows daily. Above all, her deepest joy was spending time with her son Austin and watching him grow.
