Bessie Smith Teal

Mother Bessie Smith Teal, 96, of Lilesville, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her daughters as she went to be with her Lord and Savior.

Born and raised in the Lilesville community, Bessie lived a long and faithful life centered on family, church, and quiet strength. She remained deeply connected to Bessie Chapel AME Zion Church, where she worshipped for many years and where she will now rest in the church cemetery.

She leaves behind her devoted daughters, who were with her until the end, along with other loving family members who gathered at the Teal home in Lilesville to honor her memory. Her life of dignity, grace, and steadfast love will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
